Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas (Getty)Exes Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato were indirect competitors this summer, as both former Disney stars released debut singles from upcoming albums.
Jonas collaborated with controversial R&B artist Chris Brown on the moody pop track "See No More," while Demi showcased her powerfully emotive pipes on the ballad "Skyscraper."
Let's just say these two have seen very different results.
Joe's "See No More" made its debut on June 3, peaking at No. 92 on the Billboard Hot 100 despite an fiery accompanying music video, tireless promotional travel and Joe's sweaty, bulked-up bod. A performance at a PAPER Magazine party in the hipster capital of the world, Brooklyn, was met with jeers and balls to the face.
Demi, meanwhile, released her single "Skyscraper" on July 12, to the instant approval of her fans and colleagues. Among the many stars who commented on the beauty of the song, which was recorded before Lovato entered treatment for "emotional and physical issues" last November, were Selena Gomez, Kelly Clarkson, Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry, who tweeted, "The new song Skyscraper by @ddlovato is pure perfection."
"Skyscraper" debuted in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100, just a spot ahead of the 2008 debut of her first chart entry, "This Is Me," a Camp Rock duet with... Joe Jonas.
Now, Demi's planning to release her album September 20, and just might be recording a duet with Justin Bieber (one of the producers she's working with hinted at a dream collaboration via Twitter this week).
And though Joe seems to be getting cozy with top model Karlie Kloss, his professional life isn't running quite as smoothly: His album release date appears to have been pushed back from September 6 to October 11. Maybe his people are trying to avoid any Demi/Joe career comparisons.
