Nicki Minaj and Other Famous Wardrobe Malfunctions

Nicki Minaj failed to ingratiate herself to parents Friday morning when she inadvertently exposed herself on national television, but she's not the first celebrity to suffer a high-profile wardrobe malfunction. Starting with Nicki, here's the rundown on a few famous slip-ups.

1. Nicki

The Harajuku Barbie drew thousands to see her perform next to Central Park forGood Morning America, and ABC applied the industry standard five-second delay to her performance for good measure. While the delay helped the network edit out a few choice words from Nicki's songs, it failed to prevent East Coast viewers from seeing a serious wardrobe malfunction. Nicki popped out of her top, and ABC ended up issuing an apology.

It said: "Although we had a five-second delay in place for the Nicki Minaj concert on GMA, the live East Coast feed of the concert regrettably included certain fleeting images of the performer that were taken out of later feeds of the broadcast in other time zones. We are sorry that this occurred."

2. Janet Jackson

Ms. Jackson's 2004 Super Bowl performance is a case so famous itspawned the phrase "wardrobe malfunction." Janet and Justin Timberlake's halftime medley started with "All for You" and "Rhythm Nation" before moving into JT's "Rock Your Body." When Justin got to the final line in the song, ("Bet I'll have you naked by the end of this song") he ripped away part of Janet's top, revealing her bare breast adorned with silver jewelry.

The incident led to a public outcry in the United States, where the FCC received 540,000 complaints, but it passed largely without controversy in other countries. In Canada, where the game still draws millions of viewers, only 50 complaints were received by the FCC's equivalent agency, the CBSC.

Besieged by lawsuits and complaints, CBS afterward accused Janet and Justin of planning the wardrobe malfunction on their own, and the network demanded a public apology from each before allowing them to appear on the Grammy telecast. Justin complied, but Janet didn't. The former would later say he suffered far less backlash from the incident than she did.

"I probably got 10 percent of the blame, and that says something about society," he told MTV. "I think that America's harsher on women. And I think that America is, you know, unfairly harsh on ethnic people."

3. Tara Reid

In 2004, Tara caught flack for a major wardrobe malfunction that left photographers aghast and the star feeling silly on the red carpet of Sean "P. Diddy" Combs' 35th birthday party in New York. Tara failed to notice when a dress strap (that's the dress at right) slid off her shoulder and down her arm, leaving her smiling for the cameras while her left breast was fully exposed.

Tara's slip was widely covered by entertainment news outlets and she quickly found herself the butt of many-a-late night joke. She later said of the backlash: "People act like it was the worst crime in the world. It was a mistake, you know! But you would think my boob had popped out and shot Gandhi! My hooters are under control. I'm taped up now, totally. I'm using double tape. Double double tape. My boobs are going nowhere again."

4. Eva Longoria

David Letterman got more than he bargained for when Eva Longoria showed up to The Late Show last April. TheDesperate Housewives star was waxing lyrical about the joys of cooking with cilantro when she nearly popped out of her blazer. When Dave pointedly began staring at Eva's chest, she picked up on the hint and buttoned up the jacket just in time to prevent anything truly embarrassing from happening.

Eva laughed and said, "You didn't see anything!" Dave's response? "We're gonna lose our liquor license. I know it."

5. Khloe Kardashian

While some stars find themselves red-faced over wardrobe malfunctions, Khloe definitely took hers in stride. She showed up on Fox & Friends to talk about her glamorous life as a Kardashian, but while she was busy gabbing, she didn't notice that the transparent part of her shirt had shifted to reveal her right nipple. (That's the offending shirt pictured at right.)

When Khloe was alerted to the accidental flash via Twitter, she laughed it off, writing: "Thank God! I f---ing love nipples!!!!" She later added: "I had a nip slip and I loved it! My mom just called me saying my nip slip is "all over the internet! Ha! Is it weird that I love it? Who knew nipples were so special?"
